Hi 👋 we've had an amazing day bringing volunteers to support the running of our Net Zero Coding Adventure at Guildford County School today!
The Year 8s have had wonderful time learning all about carbon emissions, what net zero means, and how they can use tech for good! They ran our pre-recorded assembly first thing (with the added bonus of a certain 'Professor' pausing it to ask questions!) It was then followed by a series of 3 sessions of activities, each of which had 2 classes ((so a total 180 students!) who used block coding to drive the fabulous Vex Robotics virtual rover around a virtual school, collecting environmental data and working out how to use it in a persuasive way to encourage sustainability changes around the school, and help save the planet!
Thank you so much to Bupa who have sponsored the day, to all the volunteers and helpers, and of course to the wonderful Guildford County School staff who helped organise it all - in particular Huda Gay and Maria Elelftheriadi. They must have loved it, as they're already planning their next coding adventure!
Are you interested in running a Net Zero Coding Adventure in the autumn, or would you like to nominate a school? We'd love to hear from you! More information can be found here: https://www.getwiththeprogram.org.uk/net-zero
