Since last International Women's Day, I’ve been delighted to notice more dolls that demonstrate women in STEM careers as role models on the market. But what do you do if you can’t find one for your child’s chosen career? Well you make one of course!
But don’t forget your own power as a role model on your child, or children around you. I’m honoured (and in true imposter syndrome style, embarrassed) to have recently been called a role model myself. But I’ve learnt to embrace it, and even create a doll to match my ‘Professor’ character, and am now proud to demonstrate to young girls and young women around me what it is to be a woman in technology, and a role model.
Mothers, you are role models to your children - look in the mirror and reflect how they see you, and be proud of who you are to them!
