Refuse
Reduce
Reuse....AND
Recycle
Today we celebrate the start of National Recycle Week ♻️
Running from 14th-20th September, this is a week concentrated on the promotion of a circular economy, one based on the reuse and regeneration of materials in an environmentally and sustainable way and focuses on the message of 'Rescue Me' to encourage more people to recycle the right items more often.
As custodians of our planet, engaging children in the importance of sustainability, waste reduction, reducing carbon emissions, and looking after our environment from an early age, is key. And so too is the importance of understanding that technology can, and will, play a role in saving our planet in the future and that they can play a part in this too.
'The Environment' is one of the 8 Pillars of Get with the Program and our unique coding adventures get the environmental message across to children in a fun, creative way, focusing them on what they can do now, whilst also underlining how technology can be used to help us save our planet in the future.
We have age-appropriate coding adventures focused on waste reduction (for 5-9 year-olds) and Net Zero (for 11-13 year-olds - launching fully in March 2025), all aligned with cross-curriculum environmental themes.
The impact:
🔸 Children are focused on the importance of environmental action and stewardship, and understand what they can do right now to help the environment.
🔸 Children understand how technology could play a key role in protecting our environment in the future, and are encouraged to explore tech for good.
🔸 Parents and carers also get the message through our ‘at home’ activity focused on waste reduction.
