Turn to Tech

Today is the official launch of the #TurnToTech campaign by the City of London Corporation. A fabulous campaign focusing on encouraging women into the digital workforce and how businesses can create environments that allow them to thrive in.

Here are some of my thoughts, based on my #TurnToTech video recorded at The Guildhall on 14th May 2025.

"I'm here at the Women Pivoting into Digital conference that's been organised amazingly by the City of London Corporation.

I just want to tell my story a little bit.

I came from a degree background - initially I started in medical school, and then I switched into a philosophy degree. I had no idea about getting into digital or technology ... but I actually did then pivot quite early in my career.

These days I've created an organisation that is all about encouraging women and young girls - and young people inclusively - into tech careers! It's called Get with the Program! We find it's really important to encourage children to consider tech careers at a really young age, and one of our goals is to normalise the visibility of underrepresented groups in STEM careers.

So I when I came to start Get with the Program I was adamant if I was going to create an organisation, I would make sure it had school hours, term time opportunities, and flexible working for people who might need that for other reasons.

And so I feel really strongly about supporting women, and other groups that might need those flexible working hours. Given we can work around annual leave, we can work around weekends, we can work around day and night even - so why can't we create flexible working opportunities for people who need school hours and term time roles?

I really love what the City of London Corporation is doing here, highlighting all of these opportunities and asking employers to self-reflect ...

... and not just give women pivoting into tech opportunities for them to find, but to go out and find the women, and make sure they show them the opportunities that exist!"
